Tools & Toys

A running list of the tools and technology I use regularly — the things that make my work and learning life better.

Hardware

Apple Mac

My primary work machine. Rock solid, great keyboard, and the macOS ecosystem suits the way I work.

iPad

The iPad is increasingly part of my daily workflow — particularly since iPadOS arrived and made it a genuinely capable productivity device. I use it for reading, note-taking, and lighter writing tasks.

Raspberry Pi's

Several Raspberry Pi's 3 x Pi4's and 1 Pi5 running multiple varioations of linux, including Kali Linux.

Hosted Servers

I run multiple Linux servers hosted on Digital Ocean.

Software & Services

Markdown & Writing

I write almost everything in Markdown these days. It's portable, future-proof, and keeps the focus on content rather than formatting.

Note-taking

Good note-taking is the foundation of good learning. I capture ideas, course notes, and references as I go, my goto application is Obsidian (Mac, iOS and iPados)

VS Code

My go-to code editor. Lightweight, extensible, and has great support for pretty much every language and format I work with.

However i still use BBedit and Vim.

Learning Platforms

Udemy

A great source of practical, affordable courses on technology topics. Quality varies, but the best courses are excellent value.

LinkedIn Learning

Good for business and professional skills alongside technical content.

DAbbled with some Cousera courses as well
